"Trust and patience": Luis Caputo's plea to the countryside regarding the elimination of tax withholdings

The dispute between the agricultural sector and the government over the elimination of withholding taxes continues. Javier Milei promised to remove these taxes, and after more than a year in office and several clashes with the agricultural sector, they are now asking him to keep his promise. However, the country's economic situation still does not allow for this, and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo , was clear about this, asking farmers for "trust and patience."
"Eliminating withholding taxes is an obsession for this government. We must have confidence and patience , because so many decades of disasters can't be fixed in a year and a half. The countryside will also be prosperous!" the head of the Ministry of Finance wrote on his X account in response to a user who mentioned the issue.
Along the same lines, Luis Caputo asserted that " agriculture is also going to grow significantly, and this time it will do so for many years to come . Agriculture is the sector for which this government has done the most. Not only in tariff reductions, the importation of used machinery, the elimination of withholding taxes for regional economies, inputs, the elimination of the country tax, etc. We also lowered the inflation tax and the exchange rate gap," he recalled.
"Until 18 months ago, agricultural products had to be sold at 300 pesos per dollar to buy them back at 1,100, and withholding taxes were higher than they are now. Have no doubt that withholding taxes will be eliminated during Javier Milei's presidency, because that's what the president promised, and this government keeps its promises," the Minister of Economy concluded on social media.
At the beginning of this week, the Liaison Committee met with Javier Milei and shared their concerns. The president listened to and answered each of the agricultural leaders' questions, and the most repeated request was to lower or eliminate the withholdings, a pending issue from this administration that only allowed a temporary reduction that ended in May.
However, agricultural sectors want this to remain permanent because they feel "suffocated" by so many taxes and exchange rates for their crops. For his part, the head of state promised to work on this and to meet again, although they did not agree on a date or timeframe.
